Have you ever noticed the stillness at dusk and dawn - sadness metabolising slowly. It is a liminal space when the day hovers on the edge of night, or the night hovers on the edge of day. A transitional space: an interface between lightness and darkness. Dusk has lost its light; dawn has yet to find it. To use Rilke’s words where ‘the inside and outside of all presence meet in a continuous-discontinuous space.’

Projected on a tumbling down apple store roof at Braziers Park, 'The Children’s hour - between the dark and the daylight,’ is an animation made in collaboration with Christine Schiavo exploring liminal space through stretched rhythm and delayed beats of time. This dreamlike tempo creates its own movement and temporality that belongs to, and stretches across, multiple layers of past and present.

Between the dark and the daylight,
When the night is beginning to lower,
Comes a pause in the day's occupations,
That is known as the Children's Hour.
